The First Responders: The Story of Freedom House Ambulance Service

May 24, 2023 @ 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Free

Andy Blenko presents “The First Responders, The Story of Freedom House Ambulance Service.”

Founded in 1967, Freedom House Ambulance Service was the first emergency medical service in the United States to be staffed by paramedics with medical training beyond basic first aid.

Dr. Peter Safar, from the University of Pittsburgh, worked with Freedom House Enterprises to train African American men and women from the Hill District as paramedics to deliver emergency medical care.

John Moon, one of the few surviving Freedom House Paramedics, will be joining us for a question and answer session after the presentation.
