SUMMARY:Antiques Appraisals
DESCRIPTION:Join appraiser\, Lori Nelson\, to find out about your treasures. She appraises most items including real and costume jewelry. \nPlease no artwork or furniture. \nAppraisals are like the Antiques Roadshow; description\, age\, trivia about colors or time periods\, etc. Actual values are always changing\, but general worth\, where to sell and where to buy. This is especially interesting for people who want to downsize and sell things\, heirs who don’t know what they have\, and collectors. Attendees will learn how to date and identify things they own\, storage\, care\, cleaning\, and more. \nSeating is limited. Number of items per person is limited. Please contact Krista at 724-863-4700 x4 or kbrown@norwinpubliclibrary.net for more information or to register.

SUMMARY:QPR Suicide Prevention
DESCRIPTION:QPR is an evidence-based program that teaches people about suicide awareness and prevention. QPR functions as an emergency mental health intervention for suicidal persons\, much as CPR works for people having a heart attack. An abbreviation for Question\, Persuade and Refer\, the intent is also to identify and interrupt the crisis and direct that person to the proper care.\nQPR is not intended for mental health professionals. It is for anyone in the community. QPR is intended to teach the warnings signs of suicide and how to ask the suicide questions\, how to encourage people to get the needed help and where to find local resource for immediate assistance.\nAsking the question could save a life.

SUMMARY:Pandemics: 1919 and 2020 Similarities
DESCRIPTION:Comparing the 1918 and 2020 Pandemics with Dr. Tom Soltis-Thursday\, June 22 at 6:00pm During the previous program on the 1918 Flu Pandemic presentation\, Dr. Soltis used the word ‘haunting’ to describe the similarities between the arrival\, response\, and reaction to both Pandemics. Dr. Soltis will return to the Library with a follow-up presentation focusing on the similarities between these two Pandemics. \nThe presentation will look at the controversy surrounding the arrival of the ‘Spanish Lady’ in 1918 in our area\, how local officials took different approaches to responding to the arrival of the disease\, and how residents responded to the disease. The overall purpose is to allow those in attendance to draw the similarities between the response to a Pandemic in 1918 to our response to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
